Join me and 0-3 cats for a self-guided yoga + meditation experiment simulcast with the Marfa Public Radio edition of Inter-Dimensional Music. This is a self-guided practice live-streaming from Cosmic Chambo Studios in downtown Muncie, Indiana.

We’re still working through some fine-tuning of the audio component, so for this session we’re synching up with the broadcast of Inter-Dimensional Music on Marfa Public Radio. Vibe on the FM band if you’re on the West Coast of Texas: Everybody else can catch the live stream at marfapublicradio.org.

This week’s show is thick with heavy mellows, and features new sounds from some of the artists who participated in my ongoing Void Contemplation Tactics meditation video series: PJS, Mary Lattimore & Paul Sukeena, Growing, Tengger, Wife Signs, Lunaria, and Inner Travels. Dig deep into their catalogues in the Cosmic Chambo Library on Bandcamp

The visuals are from the same video series, which you can read more about here.

This is a yin yoga practice, so we’ll be moving slooowly, and holding poses for extended periods of time. The (very) basic idea is to find your variation on the pose and then gradually release tension and control, letting gravity do the work of stretching your body into the liminal space between discomfort and pain.

If you experience pain, please come out of the pose!

We’ll pause to rebound in stillness in between poses, feeling our juices ebb and flow as we constrict and release their pathways. Feel free to add child’s pose, cat/cow, or drop out entirely and just vibe with the visuals and whatever felines may have entered our makeshift dharma room.

Due to audio constraints, I won’t be offering much instruction, if any. I’ll be using a basic yoga sequence that may be familiar if you’ve participated in my IRL “mindfulness installations” at Healer, StorageSpace, the Indianapolis Zen Center, or Brooklyn’s Magick City.

Here’s an outline, with links to deeper explanations from Bernie Clark and Diana Batts’ yinyoga.com. While I am a trained yoga teacher, this is a participatory performance more than a yoga class, and I encourage you to make the practice your own.

Opening meditation:
10m of sitting in whatever configuration works for your body. We’ll be hearing language through the broadcast from Affirming Faith in Mind by Seng Ts’an, the Third Zen Patriarch.

• Sunday April 5, 2020 – POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

• Doors at 11am

Join us at Healer in Indianapolis for a participatory mindfulness experience combining yoga, meditation, and immersive video installation. Led by artist Daniel Chamberlin, this slow and low sequence of asanas is complemented by projections of slow-moving mandalas composed of photographs of flowers, mushrooms, insects, dew, birds, and other organic subject matter. The practice will also feature a soundtrack of New Age, ambient, drone, dub, and “cosmic metal,” as heard on Chamberlin’s weekly Inter-Dimensional Music broadcast on WQRT Indianapolis and Marfa Public Radio on the West Coast of Texas.

Chamberlin’s yoga and meditation teaching takes concepts from yoga and Zen and emphasizes their implications for radical body acceptance and use as a tool for escaping false binaries. This is the body we have today, the only body, the ultimate body, the every body. Our practice is an opportunity to feel gravity pulling our bodies apart, a celebration of the infinite flux of life, and an invitation to drift and sink into the flow of our fluids.

These sessions are intended to be accessible to all bodies and experience levels: First timers are most welcome. Please bring your own yoga mat.  For more information take a look at Healer on Facebook and Instagram, contact cosmic.chambo@gmail.com or visit daniechamberlin.com.
