Daniel Chamberlin
Indiana Heart Sutra (2017-2019)
60-minute video, digital print, yoga installation, and collaborative performance with Mark Perretta
Indiana Heart Sutra (2018) is a botanical mandala made from Chamberlin’s original photographs from several Indiana parks. The work includes language from the Heart Sutra, one of the foundational texts of Mahayana Buddhism: “Also no attainment with nothing to attain.”
[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”15″ display=”basic_imagebrowser”]A 60-minute video of Indiana Heart Sutra – in which the mandala slowly revolves over the course of the hour – was part of Chamberlin’s ongoing “drone yoga” collaboration series at PlySpace Muncie on October 29, 2018 and January 10, 2019. These evenings of slow movement also included live improvisational audio drones from Mark Perretta.
A digital print of Indiana Heart Sutra hangs in the robe room at the Indianapolis Zen Center in an original frame constructed from found materials by IZC guiding teacher Lincoln Rhodes. Contact the artist directly for information on prints of still images from the video.
